Crystal Doors has joined Race to Zero

Crystal Doors has formally joined Race to Zero, the official UN-backed global campaign to rally leadership and support for net zero in the lead up to the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow this November.

Since its inception in June last year, the campaign has grown exponentially to become the largest coalition of credible, net zero targets and now brings together over 2,500 non-state actors across sectors and regions, representing over 12% of the global economy. All members are committed to the same overarching goal: achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at the very latest.

Crystal Doors was welcomed into the network as a signatory of the Pledge To Net Zero initiative, which became a formal partner of Race to Zero this week. Pledge To Net Zero was launched in late 2019 to convene fast climate action in the UK’s environmental sector. It requires signatories to commit to deliver a greenhouse gas target in line with either a 1.5°C climate change scenario, or well below 2°C. As a signatory of Pledge To Net Zero, our Managing Director Richard Hagan is able to add his experience of turning Crystal Doors into a nationally award-winning green manufacturer to the UK’s best environmental talent and consultants.

Andrew Griffith MP, UK Net Zero Business Champion, said: “Pledge To Net Zero is playing a leading role in driving the UK’s environmental services sector towards the goal of reducing carbon emissions and achieving our 2050 net zero target. Becoming part of the UNFCCC’s Race To Zero campaign shows recognition of this and I congratulate all involved on this achievement. I look forward to seeing the initiative go from strength to strength, particularly with its potential to share world-leading environmental expertise internationally.”

Below is the official Race to Zero vision, which we wholeheartedly support:

We are in a race.

A race against time and against ourselves. Against the dangerous idea that we can’t do this, that there is no way.

Unlike most races, it won’t have one winner. In this race we all win, or we all lose.

Winning it will mean a radical, unprecedented level of collaboration, from all corners of our world.  From our cities, businesses, regions and investors.  From people everywhere.

Together we’ll be racing for a better world, a zero carbon world. A healthier, safer, fairer world.

A world of wellbeing, justice, abundance and joy, where the air is fresher, our jobs are well-paid and dignified, and our future is clear.

To get there we need to run fast, and get faster. We need more and more people to join the race, and right now. This is not about 2050, it’s about today.

We chose to go to the moon once. Now we choose to race to zero. This too will be hard, probably harder – but that’s not why we’re choosing it. We’re choosing it because we can.

Because together, we can do this. And we’re already on the way.

We encourage other SMEs to formally join the Race to Zero by making a net zero commitment via the SME Climate Hub.
