Scope 2 emissions are the indirect emissions we are responsible for through the electricity we consume. Energy saving measures taken to-date include roof insulation, LED lighting, upgraded pumps and compressors, power factor correction equipment and a state-of-the-art energy-saving dust extractor system. Our 246kW rooftop solar panel system also delivers a sizeable portion of electricity needs.
Under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG), companies can report Scope 2 emissions in two ways. The ‘market-based method’ represents emissions associated with the electricity purchased. The ‘location-based method’ represents emissions associated with the electricity actually consumed (the UK’s national energy mix). Even though the electricity we purchase is 100% renewable (from SSE), reporting the location-based figure is an important incentive to continue improving energy efficiency.
